Eyes are up here, buddy.

Eyes are up here, buddy.

Christina Hendricks is the new face of Vivienne Westwood's "Get a Life" palladium jewelry collection, which, well... we'll let the press release do the heavy lifting.

"Palladium Alliance International (PAI), is developing a unique collaboration with acclaimed British designer, Vivienne Westwood, to create the limited edition Vivienne Westwood "Get A Life" Palladium Collection. The designs will be unveiled during London Fashion Week in February 2011 and will be available exclusively in Vivienne Westwood boutiques in London and Los Angeles in spring 2011.

"Jewelry has nothing to do with Get a Life. Get a Life is about how we stop climate change and therefore preserve life for the next generation while at that same time get a better life. My focus at the moment is what one person can do. Stop climate change. Save the planet. The acorn is symbolic of the rainforest, its importance and how it is our first duty to save it," – Vivienne Westwood

From the beginning of her career, Westwood has used her fashion as a vehicle for communicating ideas. Her bespoke Palladium collection includes elements inspired by the need to act, affect, preserve and allow our environment to flourish. Designs from the collection are inspired by nature and symbols from paganism – the acorn, the oak tree and a heart all feature prominently to represent strength, luck, power and hope for change to make the environment better for the future.

Palladium is a metal derived from nature; originating from the platinum family, Palladium is naturally white, maintains its color for a lifetime, and light and strong, making it an excellent choice for fine jewelry."

Skipping the obvious question of whether a jewelry line can really do anything more than pay lip service to stopping climate change...

Lord almighty, that gal takes a hell of a picture. Christina? Anything to say while we stare at you?

"It was a great honor for me to be asked to represent the 'Get a Life' palladium jewelry collection. I admire that Vivienne uses her designs to inspire change and the pieces are just so wonderful. The pieces really sparkle under the lights and I cannot wait to wear them on the red carpet."

That's wonderful, dear and kudos on landing the campaign. You look stunning. But if we may... we look at the above picture, as well as this one:

And we're sorry, darling, we have to say this: Do you SEE how unbelievably stunning you look when you pay a top professional to make you up? Girl, we know times are hard, but use your new Vivienne Westwood money to put a really good makeup gay on your payroll. And look what happens to your boobs with a well-fitted bra and dress! Darling, please tell us you've learned some lessons here, because the last time you stepped out on the RC was painful for everyone involved.

All bitchery aside, they really are stunning pictures and we love the jewelry:

We will not be happy until Daphne Guinness shows up somewhere in a techno-Druid getup, sporting that oak leaf crown.

Christina Aguilera has reportedly been arrested for public intoxication in West Hollywood.

TMZ claims that the singer was arrested on a misdemeanour charge at 2.45am, while her boyfriend Matthew Rutler was also arrested for driving under the influence of alcohol.

Sources told the site that Aguilera was "extremely intoxicated" and "unable to take care of herself".

However, they added: "If the driver had not been arrested for DUI, [Christina] would have never been in trouble."

Meanwhile, sources close to the singer have allegedly been trying to get her into a rehab programme 'for weeks'.

Depp Jam.

Johnny Depp arrives at Narita International airport in Japan.

There's so much about this look that's ripe for our bitchery; so ripe, we have to stand upwind from it: the purple shades, the keffiyeh, the beads, the hat, the striped shirt, the multiple rings and bracelets. It's all so ... so ... Johnny Depp. In fact, those folks in Japan better make sure they're not being scammed, because this is so Johnny Depp it almost makes him look like one of those slightly tragic celebrity impersonators. Wouldn't it be funny if he stepped off the plane to thousands of shrieking Johnny Depp fans but he's really some guy from Jersey who does appearances on the side to make alimony every month? He's probably all "I usually do Bat Mitzvahs but who says no to a paid trip to Japan? Score!"

But we're pretty sure this is the real Johnny Depp and while the outfit is primed for our sharp little tongues, the fact of the matter is, when you're an international superstar on the level of Johnny Depp and you're stepping off a plane in Japan for what looks to be some sort of promotional appearance, then you're going to want to look the way the world expects Johnny Depp to look. Not that we don't think he dresses like this in his private life (although we have no real way of knowing); just that this getup looks a bit like Depp's Greatest Hits, sartorially speaking. As if he just threw everything on at once that the public associates with his look.

Mind you, it's not a particularly bad look, and we admire him for working it so consistently for so long, but it does tend to look more like a costume than clothes at this point. A lot of big stars are like that after awhile.

But really, Japan. Check your credit card receipt. This guy might be a scam artist with plastic surgery bills to pay.

Pleading her case.

First Lady Michelle Obama, with Second Lady Dr. Jill Biden, at a meeting

We're not sure we love the clashing prints (although they're technically not clashing). Certainly, it's a flattering look on her. The neckline and sleeves are perfect for her and for once, the high waist really works in her favor. Those differently scaled prints might actually be doing the trick here. Normally a high-waisted skirt with a blouse does not-particularly-kind things to her proportions, but she looks just right here. Love the hair; love the bangles.

People ask why we don't feature Dr. Biden here more often. Two reasons: one, she dresses competently and we can't recall her ever appearing in public looking bad, but she also dresses somewhat boring from a blog-writing perspective. It's a succession of appropriate tailored suits, like most other political wives. The second reason is that The Second Lady simply isn't in the public eye as much as the First Lady is. Still, she looks good here. They both do. Their outfits match somewhat and together, they're projecting an image of grace and competence, which we suspect was largely the point of the appearance. Well done, Number One and Number Two.
