So what's fixed?
To me, in Office nothing seemed broken.
From the release notes:
"Microsoft Office for Mac 2001 Service Pack 1, addresses several known issues with stability and usability on the MacOSX platform. Significant to this update is the new "Port to PC" function. With this function, MacOSX users will be continually reminded that they should abandon the Mac and move to a Windows 7 supported PC. Several new instabilities, with annoying alerts were added in order to enhance this functionality. "
And then it goes on and on about some other silly bug fixes. :p
Lady Gaga Smoking Cigarettes.Somehow, I knew you would reply like you did. Again, I have a job in an actual data center as a systems administrator. Let me tell you, I know the real story. ;) And it's not just my company. Go take a look around and see how many shops use Windows to run their SAP environnements. Their peoplesoft stuff. Heck, just their lowly Oracle installations.
And who said I was talking about Enterprise Macs ? My Unix boxes cost well over 100k$ a piece.
It depends on where you work. I have worked for agencies within the US government that were almost 100% Windows. Granted, we weren't running anything like SAP or Peoplesoft, but the servers virtually all Windows based. We had a few Solaris boxes scattered about, but that was about it. I guess Microsoft had better lobbyists or something.
My current employer (different agency) is much better. Oddly, one of the components I work with is heavily...AIX. I guess IBM isn't totally dead yet.
Edit: Bah, forgot to do multiquote
Anyway, regarding the earlier discussion on Android vs. iOS: I don't see how Android is that hard to use. I never even looked at my user manual. It's all touch based with pretty icons. How is that difficult?

IDC talks about revenues and number of boxes. I'm talking about actual environnements. ;)
One day, when you work in IT, you'll understand what the real workhorse of the industry is.
Hey...get with the times man, "unix god complex" has been out of style for over a decade! :D

All in all it was a computer and pefectly capable internet machine, but at least in an hour nothing even came close to winning me ove. Oh yeah it also crashed once too.
Closing is very intuitive. You click the red close button. What's so hard about that? Same for minimize.. click the minimize button. If you honestly are having trouble with that, you're an idiot.
Dumbed down? You have command-line access via the Terminal. It's ****ing UNIX man. That's a lot more access than Windows gives you.
As for it crashing, you didn't say at all what version of X you were running or anything.
Macs "almost" qualify as computers? Yeah, okay.

My question though is how is this any different then having multiple TVs on your cable account? You can only watch TV on your account when your in your own home and on your own WiFi. Time warner took some pretty big steps to make sure you can't "steal" cable... It is a pretty secure app.
I am just wondering why Viacom and others are bitching? Its just like going in the other room and watching it on the other TV... Doesn't allow you to watch TV away from home..

Quite why people keep expecting announcements of upgraded laptops at a photography conference is beyond me.

I am actually afraid of this for Apple!
This is just going to give bad press, and get people to start to compare Apple to the RIAA with regards to lawsuits.
I understand Apple wanting to protect it's name, however they promoted podcasting , and do within many of their products, so trademarking it is just going to crush the little guys that recently started to support and like Apple.
I think this is a bad move, and worries me!

1. An SD slot for the 11 inch - I'm a blogger and would like to be able to upload pictures without the use of a converter or hooking my camera up to the computer
Have you tried an Eye-Fi memory card? I picked one up recently and it's made offloading photos from the camera SO much easier.
Jennifer Aniston#39;s New ManI hope they use the USB flash drive option (like they do with the MacBook Air); then enable some way where we can update the OS install on the flash drive with newer 10.7.x releases, so down the road when we reinstall our machines we don't need to go through the process of having to redownload every update since our install version.
Plus the USB drive option would work well with folks have don't have an optical drive in their machines.
And I wouldn't mind paying a bit more for the USB drive option.

after all this hype if iOS 5 is just a small improvement that would be ludicrous.
When has Apple ever made anything more than "just a small improvement"?

Damn. The map-download thing is the one thing keeping me from buying this immediately. I have both TomTom and Navigon's apps and switch between the two from time to time because neither does what I want - basically, I've wanted the Garmin experience on the Iphone but the freedom of the Iphone (and updates, etc. the apps have allowed.)
My guess is that the maps download to your phone and are not constantly being pulled in, so a mapped-out drive from one city to another that passes through a dead zone isn't going to result in an area with no maps. But that one small issue of getting stuck in a no-coverage area and desperately needing it is worrisome.
That said, Garmin has everything else covered here -traffic, map updates, etc. The download issue really should be a minimal problem for most people who aren't traveling in iffy areas. I *really* want to get back to using a Garmin product without buying a standalone unit.
