Not being to familiar with the console I've been using InCrease that works really fast and stays in the background. It even keeps running after I log out at the end of the day (at work) or night (at home) I just recently installed it on my new G5 X-serve (dual 2.3 ghz 520gb mirrored drives with 4gb RAM) and it's doing 50-60point GROMACs in about 7 to 8 hours each, well 2 at a time so I'm crunching about 100 points in 8 hours with it.

How do i know what format the drive is in?

Plug the external drive into your MacBook Pro, and open a finder window. The WD drive should show up in the left part of the finder window, under devices.

Right-click on the drive, and click on "Get Info".

In the Info window, part way down you'll see the format. For example:

Format: MS-DOS (FAT32)
or
Format: Mac OS Extended (Journaled)
or
something else for NTFS...

Remember, you can't reformat a drive (or a partition) without losing the files currently on that drive (partition). So, you MUST copy the files somewhere else, first.

LCDs looks horrible when not ran at their native resolution. You will definitely want to run it at 2560x1600. If the text is too small, sit closer or make the fonts bigger.

I am going to be picking up my new 27" iMac at the store tomorrow. For the past 4 years I have been using a 24" Dell at 1920x1200. Since the 27" iMac is 2560x1140, do most people run it at native or something lower?

I am looking forward to the increased screen size so I can have more rows/columns viewable, but not sure I want them any smaller.

I sit about 24-30" away from the screen.

How would the 27" look at something lower?

And, to answer the OP:
- Running games at 2560x1440, with lower textures, I find, is better than running it at 1080p, with higher texture.
- When browsing the web, documents, etc. keep it at native resolution, otherwise it looks like rubbish.

You will be fine with the D90 for many years. I personally wouldn't think of a camera/lens as an "investment" as it will not increase in price like a nice painting.

My personal choice in kit lenses would be 18-70mm and 70-300mm.

Can anyone give me the right amount to partition off for Windows XP+Games+Bootcamp?

Simple answer - No we can't.

Longer answer - Only you know how many games you will be wanting to install on XP, similar to the above poster, I only play one game which requires Windows, so I set mine to 40GB, which was enough for OS and the game.

One piece of advice I would give you is to partition your drive into 3, one for Mac OS, one for Windows and a third 'spare' partition. THat way if you find yourself running out of space on either Mac or Windows you can format the 'spare' partition appropriately, or even split the spare into two.

I was asked to get a Sony PS2 Mini for X-mas but will it play MP3 CD and MP3 DVD?

Our DVD deck burned from all the movies played and a PS2 can really do the job for the extra 100$ which at the same time play some games with the kids.

I found a dead pixel today. Maybe my vision just sucks but, even when I look for it knowing where its at, I can't see it unless conditions are perfect (100% screen brightness, white background, nothing else near it). It really isn't that big of a deal, no screen is perfect.

I call shenanigans. Why sell a cheaper model when people would buy up the more expensive one if the cheaper one wasn't offered.

The best option for the OP since his mother's ipad is still on 3.2.x is to jailbreak it with Spirit or whichever jailbreak allows for unthethered for 3.2.1 and wait for an untethered jailbreak for 4.3 which is (by all information) close to being finished.


This would give you the advantages of the jailbreak, and then you could update in a few weeks to 4.3 and get whatever features you want with that.

He can still jailbreak, just not update to 4.2.1. It's much better to jailbreak the 3.2.1 and wait a few weeks/(days?) for the unthethered jailbreak for 4.3 to come out.

Okay thank you for your help I'll try SD...I also heard about CCC, i wonder which is the best to use. I'll do a little more research. I have a lot of iTunes music and i dont want to lose it.
Maybe the best thing I should do is wait until I get the iMac first, transfer everything then give it away. Or better yet take it to a apple genius and let them do it for me...??

They sell them because people like myself threw out our turntable years ago. Plus, the setup and ease of use. They work great, I have an Ion brand and ripped over forty albums.
